Europe's Elite Continue to Win

In today’s post, I will be discussing European football. Specifically, the matches between Real Madrid (“Madrid”) and RB Leipzig (“Leipzig”) and FC Barcelona (“Barca”) and Bayern Munich (“Bayern”). All of these matches have occurred over the past few days in the group stage of the UEFA Champions League.

First, we will discuss Madrid vs Leipzig. What was considered a rather frustrating night for Madrid as they struggled to score the vast majority of the night would result in an eventual victory. Madrid would begin to find the net as Federico Valverde would score a beautiful goal to begin the 80th minute of play. Leipzig’s heartfelt performance began to sputter as they failed to strike on their chances. The final nail in the coffin for Leipzig happened in the 90th minute as Marco Asensio scored a gorgeous goal off a great assist from Toni Kroos. The final score of the match was 2-0, Madrid. Madrid hopes to continue their red-hot start to the season as they are currently undefeated with their next opponent being neighboring rival Atlético de Madrid.

The second match we will discuss is Barca vs Bayern. Similar to the previously stated match above this match started off with a relatively slow start. To finish the first half of play both teams would go scoreless heading into the half. This would quickly change starting the second half as Bayern would score two goals in four minutes. The first goal was scored by Lucas Hernandez in the 50th minute; the following goal was scored by Leroy Sané in the 54th minute. Following these goals, Barca would never recover. The final score of the match would be 2-0, Bayern. Over the last five meetings between the two clubs, Barca now falls to 0-5 against Bayern.
