Benzema wins Gold!

 

In today's blog post, I will be writing about the French footballer Karim Benzema (“Karim”). This blog will be separated into two separate paragraphs. The first will be about Karim’s upbringing and background. While the last will be about Karim’s recent accomplishment.

Karim was born and raised in Lyon, France.

Upbringing/Background:

Since a young age, Karim has always had a love and passion for football. This love would eventually turn into an obsession. With Karim’s hard work and talent, he would quickly begin to turn heads and garner major attention. At the age of eight, Karim would start his football career with his hometown club Bron Terraillon SC(“Terraillon”). Although brief, Karim’s short time at Terraillon was very impactful. As it was at Terraillon where he would be discovered by the biggest local club, Lyon. Once discovered, Karim would then sign and join Lyon and their youth academy. Quickly after joining, Karim would show his talent and skill as he quickly began to rise up the youth academy training rankings. This rise and development as a striker would eventually be enough to eventually join the senior team. As a senior member, Karim’s impact on the team was major. In 2008, he was awarded Ligue 1 Player of the Year and Team of the Year due to his league-leading goal-scoring. Due to his play and development, the Spanish giants of Real Madrid would then come calling. With this interest, Real Madrid would eventually reach an agreement with Lyon and agree to pay €41 million for the transfer of Karim. Since the move, Karim has cemented himself into Real Madrid history as one of the club's best all-time players. At Real Madrid, Karim has won and accomplished almost everything a player can ask for. Such as, winning the UEFA Best Player, winning the Champions League five times, and winning the Pichichi Trophy, to name a few. 

Recent Accomplishment:

As for this article’s recent news, Karim has recently won the prestigious Ballon d’Or trophy. The Ballon d’Or trophy is an annual award given to the world’s best soccer player for that specific year/season. This award has long been one of Karim’s lifelong dreams. Of note, Karim joins an elite group of French football players as he becomes the fifth Frenchman to win the award. And the first Frenchman to win the award since 1998. In addition, this victory marks the second-largest margin of victory in Ballon d’Or history. Overall, Karim is a legend who will forever be remembered as one of the best strikers in football history and his ability to score and win will never be forgotten.
