Trouble Brewing in Brooklyn?

For today’s post, we will discuss one of the NBA’s most disappointing teams. That being, the Brooklyn Nets (“Nets”). This post will be separated into two separate paragraphs. The first will discuss their eventful offseason, and the second will discuss their current state and record.

Eventful Offseason:

For the Nets, this past offseason was anything but uneventful. After a disappointing season and playoff run where they would be swept by the Celtics in the first round, the Nets were desperate for answers. Instead of answers, the Nets were faced with unwanted player drama and uncertainty. This drama and uncertainty were due to their two superstars Kyrie Irving (“Irving”) and Kevin Durant(“Durant”). It all started with Irving; Irving missed the majority of last season due to his refusal to get vaccinated against COVID-19. When playing, Irving would average 27.4 points per game with 5.8 assists. Due to Irving’s history of inconsistency and uncertainty, the Nets were unwilling to sign Irving for a long-term deal. This in turn would frustrate Irving as he would immediately ask for a trade. As a result of all the uncertainty, Durant would later follow Irving in requesting a trade. With all that said, both Irving and Durant would eventually shock the basketball world as they would both rescind their trade requests.

Current State and Record:

To this point early in the season, the Nets have been extremely disappointing. The Nets currently have the twelfth-best record in the Eastern Conference sitting at 6-9. Due to said start, the Nets would fire head coach Steve Nash (“Nash”) and use him as a scapegoat. With Nash gone, the Nets have been no better as they recently got humiliated by the Sacramento Kings 153-121. The Net's star players Durant, Irving, and last season's newly acquired Ben Simmons (“Simmons”) have been unable to connect and play well together. This could be due to several reasons. To start, Irving is currently deemed unfit to be associated with the team as he recently got suspended a minimum of five games due to his antisemitic views. Irving has since apologized. As for Simmons, recent reports suggest that the Nets organization as fellow teammates have grown frustrated with Simmons due to his lack of availability and his level of play. Simmons is currently averaging 5.8 points per game with 6.1 rebounds and 5.6 assists. As for Durant, he has recently gone public with his frustration as he blasted the Net's current starting five. It remains to be seen if the Nets will recover and save their season, but at this point, it is not looking good.
